![]() ![]() ![]() Follow @Uncle_Ernie How Time Flies When You're Having Fun, Huh? By Ernest Stewart "Even when selecting for the worst mega-drought-dominated period, the 21st century projections make past mega-droughts seem like quaint walks through the Garden of Eden." ~~~ Jason Smerdon ~ climate scientist at the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory Finally, it seems the Sheeple are starting to get hip to the fact, no matter what lies their tea-baggers politicians tell them -- which is good, because science has been beating them over the head with the facts for 25 years. For those who were listening, we've known about Global Warming for 50 years! So far this year, we here in Michigan have been experiencing a very warm January and February with most all daytime highs way above average. We've had our share of moisture; but, for the most part, it's fallen as rain. This week, I saw a freighter pass on the river heading north, normally the shipping season on the Great Lakes is over by early January, still no ice flows in mid February. Most of the snow falling in Michigan has been lake effect snow which forms over warm open water. Don't get me wrong; I'm not bitching; I'm digging on it! Back when I was a kid, snow started before Halloween and lasted until May. My great-grandkids may move back to Michigan as it becomes the new Florida, without the hurricanes? As parts of Florida sink under the ocean while the rest burns up. As I've said before, in Global Warming there are winners and losers, but mostly losers. It doesn't matter much if you have nice winter weather when some American 'breadbaskets' are in a 14-year old drought with predictions that California may be undergoing a mega-drought that might last 30-35 years. Some predict that the coming intense dry spells could exceed the decades-long mega-droughts that occurred centuries ago and are blamed for the demise of certain civilizations in the late 13th century. Then tens of thousands died; now billions may die! Thanks to TPP and various local governments in some places in America, it's unlawful to grow a 'victory garden' and to catch and save rainwater to water it! Along with this warmer winter, we'll be able to look forward to extended tornado seasons, more high-wind thunderstorms in the East and Midwest, and more hotter, drier, droughts in the West. There are winners and losers, but mostly losers. ***** ![]() 12-17-1930 ~ 02-04-2016 Thanks for the adventure! ![]() 12-09-1941 ~ 02-06-2016 Thanks for the music! ***** We get by with a little help from our friends!
