Follow @Uncle_Ernie 2 Degrees Celcius And Beyond By Ernest Stewart Hi Hi Hi ~~~ Paul McCartney and Wings Not just in Michigan; global temperatures hit a new all-time record high in February, shattering the old record, set just last month amid a record-strong El Nino; and what's more important, we are 2 degrees C or 3.6 degrees F above "normal!" It seems average temperatures across the Northern Hemisphere have breached the 2 degrees Celsius above "normal" mark for the first time in recorded history, and likely the first time since human civilization began thousands of years ago. This mark has long been held the point above which climate change may begin to become "dangerous" to humanity. As I keep saying, Global Warming deserves our greatest possible attention. Our planet's preliminary February temperature data are in; and it's now abundantly clear: Global Warming is going into maximum overdrive. You may recall that back in the 1990s we were warned that the 2 degrees mark would be the point where we could do little or nothing to stop the climate catastrophe that is to come! They thought at the time it might take as much as 100 years for this to happen. Then about 10 years ago, we were told that it could happen in about 50 years. Five years ago, it had dropped to 25 years; but since the original forecast in 1998, it's taken less than 18 years to reach the tipping point! As I write this, the current temperature is 72 degrees; not bad for early March when the average high temperature should be around 46 in Port Huron. Of course, back in 2012, we had a week where the temperature was between the upper 80s and low 90s. Florida, indeed! Meanwhile, Bernie took Michigan -- a state where the pundits had him trailing the corpo-rat candidate Hillary by 21 points. Of the three possible presidential candidates, only Bernie gets global warming and has any plans to do something about it. Both the Donald and Hillary are hemming and hawing around the subject like their corpo-rat pals want them to; so you can imagine how effective they'd be in putting this country on the path of doing something about it. Sure, Barry talks a mean game plan about global warming; but talk is cheap; and he's done very little in in the last 8 years in defense of the planet and our lives. As quick as Global Warming is becoming unstoppable, this may be America's last chance to do something about it.
