Global Warming And Fire
By Ernest Stewart

"If we pollute the air, water and soil that keep us alive and well, and destroy the biodiversity that allows natural systems to function, no amount of money will save us." ~~~ David Suzuki

Wildfires are currently burning in seven Western states, from California's scenic Big Sur region to Reno, Nevada. Other states currently on fire include Oregon, Montana, Wyoming, Idaho, and Washington state. And Washington state's Sunnyside fire has already burned 275 square miles. I'm going to repeat that again for those of you on drugs:

That's the size of Lexington, Kentucky -- burnt to the ground!

Just in the last two decades, the western "fire season" has grown by 80 days -- which may be good for some species like Jack Pines and the giant Sequoia, but bad for everybody else; and when trees live under drought conditions for years, not to mention decades, this is putting healthy trees under stress. Then, with little or no snowpack to rely on, it has dried out the trees, shrubs, and grasses that end up fueling the fires.

Of course, Big Brother is all set to step in and help, as the National Interagency Fire Center in Boise, Idaho, said Tuesday -- two C-130s are expected to be ready for firefighting missions on Wednesday. Imagine that: a whole two aircraft while the West burns down; and even they might not be flying -- because of privately-owned drones!

As "Cal Fire" points out:
"In July of 2015, firefighter's efforts were disrupted during the vital initial attack stage of the North Fire. As the fire burned toward the public driving on the nearby Interstate 15, firefighters were unable to utilize any aircraft to help hold back the blaze that would torch vehicles and force motorists to flee on foot from the oncoming flames. The reason? Several hobby drones, or UAS (unmanned aircraft systems), were seen flying in the fire area, forcing officials to ground all responding aircraft. "
Here in Michigan, we live in a rain forest, hence the Great Lakes; but, back in the 1870's, the robber barons cut most of Michigan's forests to the ground; and left what wasn't profitable lay until it caught fire and 2/3rds of Michigan burned to the ground; and, like the clear cutting, most of the wild fires are man-made -- which is a double whammy!

It's obvious we're going to do exactly nothing to stop global warming, as it's going to go on to make the 1% richer -- until it kills us all. To paraphrase an old mythology, "For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain all the money in the world, and lose his own life!" What indeed, America!

So how do you like Bush Lite so far?
And more importantly, what are you planning on doing about it?

Until the next time, Peace!
